CaaS update question

We are looking into the CaaS P3 and I was wondering if it can be patched/upgraded like SLES 12 & 15 through SUSE Manager 3.x or the new 4 (which we haven’t even looked at yet)?

SUSE CaaS Platform 3 (and 2 and 1) are based on MicroOS, a specialized version of SLES with a read-only file system, making standard management tools incompatible. The forthcoming version 4 is installed as a SLES 15 SP1 add-on, making it compatible with SUSE Manager, YaST, autoyast, etc. - at least for the OS level. (CaaS Platform 4 itself is delivered as a small installation pattern which then installs the rest of the product as containers from the SUSE Registry.)

If you want to check it out, it is now in mid-Beta, and you can get it at https://www.suse.com/betaprogram/caasp-beta/

Thanks!

SUSE CaaS Platform

Given the prefix of “CaaS Platform 2” are you asking about upgrading from CaaS Platform 2 to 3? If so, yes it’s possible - please see section 3.3 in the SUSE CaaS Platform 3 Administration Guide[1].

HTH.

[1] SUSE Documentation

Yes, SUSE CaaS Platform 2 can usually be upgraded in place to version 3.

However the 3-to-4 upgrade has significant architectural changes and will be a disruptive one, and we recommend standing up a new cluster and migrating workloads.

So it’s your decision whether to go from v2 to v3 now, and do the disruptive migration later, or wait and go directly from v2 to v4 via the disruptive upgrade.
