Change resolution from login screen

We recently moved from SLES11 to SLES12 SP1 but I have a request to be able to change the resolution from the login screen on SLES12 before you log in, like you could on SLES11.

On SLES11 you could open a display preferences interface from the login screen.

I’m wondering if this functionality is still available in SLES12 SP1?

A round about way, if you set the screen resolution via system settings → display to your desired resolution, this creates a ~/.config/monitors.xml file. You can then copy via a terminal to say your home directory and reset the resolution for the desktop. This can then be copied (as root user) to /var/lib/gdm/.config/monitors.xml file. Logout now and the login screen will be set to your desired resolution. AFAIK, no gui tools available…
