Login problem to novell-cifs share

I have problem with connecting to a novell-cifs server (SLES10 SP4/OES2
SP3) with both nautilus and konqueror running on SLED11 SP1 i686. After
the password prompt it might take minutes until the connection is
established or finally refused. Opening the share on the command line
with smbclient works instantly, however.

Options set on the server:

novcifs -o

SMB Signatures - Mandatory

Option set on the client in /etc/samba/smb.conf:
[global]
client ntlmv2 auth = yes

My wild guess is that nautilus tries whatever version of LM before
starting the negotiate the correct NTLMv2 dialog. Any comments on this?
How can this be configured in Gnome oder KDE4?

I think Nautilus does such mounts using gvfs-mount so you could try using that on command line, see if there’s any useful output.

$ gvfs-mount smb://what/ever/

Also have a look see if there’s any debug or verbose options available. You could also try launching nautilus from a command prompt then doing that map so you can see any output from it or child processes. Also look at ~/.xsession-errors.

SLED 11 SP1 will go end of life soon so it’s worth installing a copy of SLED 11 SP2 and seeing if the problem exists with that.

Still takes forever, no output to /var/log/messages.

Output form .xsession-errors does not look promising also:

SP2 is on the to-do list, but I will not have time to upgrade in short time.
