Mac Mini

Server or Client

For the server side just go into system prefs and enable desktop sharing
then use vncviewer from Opensuse.

Hi,

Ok. So my wife has been wanting a Mac. Her old Suse box was getting too
old. A friend was selling his Core Duo 1.8 for not too much so I thought
I would do both of them a favor and get it for her. He is happy and
after I replaced the hard drive with an SSD and installed Snow Leopard
she is happy.

The 1.8 would drive me nuts with it’s slowness but she is tickled pink.
If mama is happy …

Unless I need to ramble some more here is a question. I’m assuming there
is remote control. What are you happy with? VNC? TeamViewer? RDP? …?

Thanks
Bob C.

Except that from OS X Lion (10.7) onwards the Screen Sharing acts more
like MS Terminal Services than VNC - you start a new remote session
rather than connect to the active one.

Do you work with Novell technologies at a university, college or school?
If so, your campus could benefit from joining the Novell Technology
Transfer Partner (TTP) program. See TTP Organization | Micro Focus for more details.

Is there a way around that?

Yes, use a third-party VNC server. I’ve had success with Vine VNC Server.

Okay - because for example, I have to sometimes remote control my Mac Mini that
is our media machine to clear some weird error message on the screen, etc. I
also use mighty mouse for it, but sometimes it’s nice to screenshare if I’m
sitting at my Mac anyway when I see the error pop up - heehee.

Has anybody used Teamviewer with Mac? (‘TeamViewer - Free Remote
Control, Remote Access & Online Meetings’ (http://www.teamviewer.com))

Laurabuckley,

yeah I use it: I did have a problem where the screen would go black,
and then only come back block by block as you wave the mouse around,
but that seems fixed with version 8
