SUSE CLA Exams (050-720 / 050-733): wrong answers penalties?

Hi everyone

I’m sitting the SUSE CLA (Certified Linux Administrator) 12 Exam (050-733) in just a few days.

I was wondering if there are any penalties for wrong answers to Exam questions? If you did not sit the CLA 12 Exam, maybe you could please tell if there were or are any penalties for wrong answers in previous CLA Exams - for instance, on the SUSE CLA 10 Exam (050-710) and/or on the SUSE CLA 11 Exam (050-720). I’m guessing that information would not be covered under the NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement), but if you believe/know that it is, do feel free to tell me that.

I have read the “CLA 12 Test Objectives” page - https://training.suse.com/certification/cla/cla-12/ - but that page does not mention anything about the Exam format.

I have also read the “Test Information - Training” page - https://www.novell.com/training/testinfo/testdata.html - but that page, as of today (Mar 27, 2016) still does not have any information about the 050-733 Exam and also does not mention if there are (or not) penalties for wrong answers on previous CLA Exams (050-710 / 050-720).

Thanks in advance

Cheers,

What do you mean by “penalties”? That by getting an answer wrong
you get additional points deducted or are asked more questions to
(re)test that topic?

I’ve taken (and passed) both CLA11 and CLA12 in the past 18 months
and as far as I know they just ask a set number of random
questions and you need to get a certain percentage of answers
correct to pass. Remember the CLA is the first level SUSE
certification.

If you’re worried about taking the exam just make sure you have
some practical experience of administering SLE(S)12 and knowledge
of the Test Objectives.

Good luck!

HTH.

Sorry, I was probably not clear enough. Yes, when I asked if there were / are “penalties”, I was asking if wrong answers would get additional points deducted.
By your answer, I conclude that there are NO penalties for wrong answers  I will just get 0 (zero) points for each wrong answer.

I’ve attended the online version of the “Course 3124 - SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 Administration” - https://training.suse.com/courses/suse-linux-enterprise-server-12-administration/ - which I believe is the one that maps most directly to the CLA 12 Exam Objectives (Exam 050-733). I do have experience in administering SLES 9, 10 and 11 but not much in SLES 12 (yet). So, besides doing a general review, I’m also focusing a bit on what I believe are the new “features” on SLES 12 (“systemd”, “wicked”, “snapper”…)

Thanks for wishing me good luck for the Test!

You probably have appeared for CLA12 exam already.
There are no penalties for wrong answers. [at least in CLA11 exam]

SUSE should think of adding exam blue print like other vendors where they disclose total number of questions to expect & duration of exam.

Amey.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, you’re right: I already took - and passed! - the CLA 12 Exam (Exam 050-733) for the SUSE Certified Linux Administrator (CLA) certification (that was recently renamed to “SUSE Certified Administrator (SCA) in Enterprise Linux 12”). And my impression was also that there were no penalties for wrong answers (meaning that one wrong answer does NOT take away points from other questions; the only consequence is that 1 wrong answer = 0 points for that particular question).

The new Exam Objectives web page - https://training.suse.com/certification/sca-linux/sca-linux-12-exam-objectives/ - at least points out the number of questions and the duration of exam:

My next step will be to take the practicum Exam for SUSE Certified Engineer (SCE) in Enterprise Linux 12 - https://training.suse.com/certification/sce-linux/ - formerly called “Certified Linux Professional (CLP)”. However, that will have to wait for a while, because I need to take a VMware recertification Exam in the meantime.

Cheers

Hello Ricardo,

Have you passed SCE exam on SUSE Linux 12?
I am curious to know which books you referred for this exam if already given.

Regards,
Amey.

Hello Amey,

Unfortunately, I have been busy with other things (some other certifications and completing a second Undergraduate Degree). Because of that, I haven’t been able to start studying for the SUSE Certified Engineer (SCE) in Enterprise Linux practicum Exam (“SUSE Certified Engineer in Enterprise Linux 12”) yet :frowning:

Cheers
