What is the difference between Cattle Agent and Rancher Agent?
I’ve never heard the term Cattle Agent before. Where have you heard that?
For any host that’s added into Rancher (regardless of what type of environment they are in), they will be launching a rancher/agent
container. This agent container communicates with the server container (i.e. rancher/server
).
If you do a search on Cattle Agent in this forum you will have many results.
Cattle is the the name of our orchestration engine and the API/UI server, the main visible component of what you think of as Rancher.
All the environment variables it takes are prefixed with CATTLE_
. One of them happens to be for the IP the agent should register as, so it’s CATTLE_AGENT_IP
.
As Denise said there is nothing called Cattle Agent and virtually all those search results are either this or lines where the two words otherwise happen to be near each other.
Thanks for the info. I understand now.
