Highly-paid consultants came in and assessed that pretty much everything
here was bad and especially we need to get away from GroupWise and onto
Exchange. For interoperability (with what besides Salesforce, which we
are not going to use, was not specified). And because Novell is going
to go out of business and Microsoft has 80% of the corporate market.
Besides that Mary, like you probably heard from your mother: “If all
your friends jumped off a cliff, would you jump off a cliff too?” (To
add to Anders’ reply)

Am I dating myself if I can remember the time when no one ever got fired
for specifying IBM? It didn’t matter if it was crap or the IBM
“solution” was the square-peg being pounded into the round-hole; if it
was IBM then it was right.
It’s been a long time since I’ve read or used a consultant contract. Is
there any clause that says the consultant doesn’t get paid if the
consultant shovels crap?

How I wish! Additional comments were (with a sneer) “Only schools and,
like, government use it anymore.” “It will be a burden to continue to
keep it working with everything.” “Well, sure, it works on smartphones,
but note that it’s using MICROSOFT Exchange.” (That last meaning
Activesync, I presume.)

Bonus points for that MS shill consultant if, when
saying the name ‘Novell’, he/she made a face that you would make if you
discovered six-month-old potato salad in the back of your fridge.
1 - The products and companies they know
2 - What will make them the most money
3 - What will bring them back in to the customer site[/color]
2+3 combine to “Will invariably recommend that you use their consultancy
services to install a replacement, as saying what you have is fine would
require an understanding (of what you have) that they lack, and not
bring in any more revenue”

Quite possibly - if a bunch of people I know and trust do ‘x’, I am
going to wonder what they know that I don’t.

Probably the opposite. A lot of “consultants” get a cut of the
commission for the “referral”
