caveat updating MariaDB with SUSE-SLE-SERVER-12-SP1-2017-795

We just had an outage of an app based on MariaDB, after an security upgrade to 10.0.30 (SUSE-SLE-SERVER-12-SP1-2017-795):

The issue is a bug in the startup script, find details here:

Great information to share; thank-you for your experience. Is the PTF out
or is the workaround the current only option until it is released?

Good luck.

a PTF is out, and can be requested from customer support

Now an official patch is out that fixes this issue:
SUSE-SLE-SERVER-12-SP2-2017-857
This update for mariadb fixes permissions for /var/run/mysql in mysql-systemd-helper that
were incorrectly set to 700 instead of 755 due to umask. This prevented non-root users from
connecting to the database.
