Just wondering what your policies are like for using Dropbox.
After avoiding the bullet for many years I suddenly received
two requests this week for permission to use Dropbox accounts.
This would be for someone in our office picking up, not dropping
off. I am not authorizing any installation of client software
that much is certain. I ran across a laptop user that had installed
Dropbox client and was synching who knows what.
We say “no”, but there are people that try/do anyway. Mainly we don’t
want god knows what going out there and then either the DB account being
compromised or other things.

That would seem to be the sensible approach in my book as well. It’s
like having flash drives go in and out with sensitive information and no
controls. Only worse.
That said, I do use dropbox, and for some of the data I sync, I encrypt
the files in the filesystem (Linux box) using encfs. That is pretty
effective at securing the files against unauthorized access, since there
is a need to know the decryption key once you’ve pulled the files out of
Dropbox. I haven’t looked at it yet, but I also think the encfs control
file can be used from elsewhere in the filesystem, so it may not even
need to be in the files that are synchronized.

Yesssss, I can not wait to get my hands on this. Already working with
the Vibe Desktop and it is fantastic. If Filr would allowed also to use
Sync for third Party Apps, like Dropbox do, it would be the cherry on
the top of, this great System.
