GPO question

We are running VDI VMs as well as computers in our domain. We have
GPOs set up, and the computers and VMs are in different OUs underneath
the OUs where the users are to have different GPO options for virtual
vs physical boxes.

we’d like different shutdown options (logoff for VMs, shutdown for
PCs), but we’re having a time figuring out how to accomplish this (as
it’s a user option, not computer) w/o restructuring our tree & moving
users, etc around or having VMs and PCs with the same shutdown options.

Anyone else doing something similar & willing to share how they
accomplished this?

Hmm… I wonder if ZENworks could help.

So my response to Joseph’s comment is…

I’m sure it would, but we don’t have it, and we’re probably moving away
from edir to ad…sigh

Stevo

Yes, ZCM would do it (Even w/o eDir)
Simply set a System Requirement in the GPO.

Sad to hear you’re moving from eDir to AD, but still, that doesn’t have
anything to do with ZENworks. It will still work just fine.

Yeah, I’m quite bummed about it. Problem is, buying something like Zen
would cause add’l licensing/maintenance, which is one of the bigger
reasons we’re ditching edir, since we already have to pay maint on ms
cals.

Do you guys have SCCM?

I’m guessing no since I don’t really know what sccm is. Google gives a
pile of answers.

The Idea with Mgmt Software is that it has a Negative Cost, even if you
pay for it.

ZCM does not require any additional cals or any cost outside of the
software itself.

The example I always give from eons ago is that when I ran a ZEN shop,
Mgmt came in and told me they just hired 20 contractors to work on a 3
month project to Deploy and configure software on about 10,000 device
for a new project. They asked me if I would goto a meeting the next day
about the project.

Let’s just say I completed the 3 month project the 20 contractors were
supposed to do prior to the Kick Off meeting.

Mgmt never asked about ZEN Costs again :>

Far less than you would pay in Labor costs to maintain your network w/o
such a tool.

It is very important to have a powerful tool than has wide ranging
functionality.

I worked for a company that was moving to Pure AD with a new CIO.
The New CIO hired an SCCM Consultant that he personally knew to help
convert us.

He saw what ZENworks at that time could do and said it would be
impossible to manage our network with SCCM because what we were doing so
far exceeded he had ever seen a company do before.
(Yeah, he only did SCCM.)

Due to our Size, MS even offered SCCM for Free.
But at Free we could not afford it’s cost vs ZCM.

And that was coming from the CIO and SCCM consultant…

Note: That was ZDM then, not ZCM. I had moved on by that time.
I’m just so used to typing ZCM vs ZDM now days.
