How to create a Patch RPM?

Hello folks,

Firstly sorry if this is the incorrect forum for this post but none of the others seemed appropriate. I would like to be able to create a patch RPM as hinted at in section 6.2.3 of the SLES guide here: https://www.suse.com/documentation/s…a/sec_rpm.html. Unfortunately the man pages referenced and numerous google searches have failed to garner any more information than in the section linked.

As far as I can see this is a binary patch rather than a source code patch of an SRPM but I can find no information on how to actually create such an RPM. We are currently producing delta RPMS using the makedeltarpm command (on SLES 11 SP3) but want a way to update an existing installation of our application without the need to reinstall the full package in a production environment.

Can anyone point me in the right direction of how to create these patch RPM files.

Thanks.

Though none of the support forums might have seemed appropriate, the
SLES forums would be appropriate for this kind of question, and the
place where someone who might have an answer for you might be located.

No worries about posting here. We don’t mind if you posted here, as
long as you don’t mind reposting in a better place. I’d try the SLES
Admin/Configuration forum. If that’s not the right one, they’ll
probably know which one is.
