kernel BUG in NFS4 (introduced in 3.0.101-0.47.50-pae)

after rebooting into the new kernel our machine stops hard whenever someone logs in (which causes autofs to mount the user’s homedir).

I worked around the problem by downgrading to NFS3, but this might want to be fixed

none of the x64 machines crashed (yet), so this problem might be confined to the i586 version.

Forums are not an official support channel, if you’re seeing a bug like this I advise you raise a Service Request.

This looks like the same issue I reported to SUSE three days ago. I saw it in SLED x86_64 but I know the issue has been reported as occurring in SLES too. I’ve been provided Kernel packages that don’t have the problem, if you raise a Service Request I expect SUSE will send you fixed packages for SLES. There will inevitably be a fix released via normal channels but I don’t know when.

how do I raise a service request with a basic support subscription?

sorry that was a bit short.

We have a basic subscription and that means we cannot raise a service request. The interface just doesn’t let you.
The real problem is not that I am in need of “service” (because i already worked around the problem). The real problem is, that there is no way to file a “bug report”.

There was once a possibility in the NCC to file bug reports (not service requests) to make SUSE aware of problems. Though I never got an answer (or request for more info) through that channel, I could at least fire a bug and hopefully make somebody aware of a flaw. That is gone now - no bug reports.

That’s why I’m reporting to the forum - it’s the only channel available.

Maybe I missed something - I’m always eager to learn

There’s a bug report form at https://www.suse.com/support/report-a-bug/
But as I said, I’m pretty sure the issue you’re seeing is something SUSE are already aware of.

thank you - I wasn’t aware of the new home for the form.

Kernel update has been released. version 3.0.101-0.47.52.1. Information page says
The SUSE Linux Enterprise 11 SP3 kernel was updated to fix a severe regression.

Due to a broken source patch, accessing NFSv4 servers as a client caused Oops messages and program hangs. (bsc#864409,bsc#924282)
