MCELOG Error after SP3 Migration

Hello,

after the Migration from my “SLES for VMWare SP2” to SP3 i’m observe following entries in my /var/log/mcelog:

mcelog: Failed to set imc_log on cpu 0 : Connection refused mcelog: Failed to set imc_log on cpu 0 : Connection refused mcelog: Failed to set imc_log on cpu 0 : Connection refused

Does anybody have the same issues and know the source of the problem?!
Thanks!

You’ve said “SLES for VMware SP2” - do you mean SLES 11 SP2 for VMware?

Also you said “Migration” so can I just check whether you meant that you
have migrated from SLES (11) SP2 for VMware to “regular” SLES 11 SP3
(i.e. not for VMware) or actually just updated/upgraded SLES (11) SP2
for VMware to SLES (11) SP3 for VMware?

There would seem to be a possible issue with mcelog in SLES11 SP3 as
I’ve found a similar report relating to “regular” SLES11 SP3 virtualised
on Microsoft Hyper-V.

In the meantime I’ll ask my contacts at SUSE.

HTH.

Hello Simon,

thank you for your reply and sorry for my unclear discription!
I have upgraded from “SLES (11) SP2 for VMware” to “SLES (11) SP3 for VMware”.

I’ve also found your report with Dr. Google before, but there is no answer/solution until now and therefore i have opened this thread here in the suse-forum.
Thank you for your assistence.

I have two patches, but the guy who reported the issue is on holidays and I need someone who can give it a test.
I have put a package to test here:
/mirror/SuSE/ftp.suse.com/pub/people/trenn/mcelog-1.0.2013.01.18-0.x86_64.rpm
On positive feedback, I can push them.
Thanks.

If tried to install it but got the following error:

rpm -Uhv mcelog-1.0.2013.01.18-0.x86_64.rpm Preparing... ########################################### [100%] package mcelog-1.0.2013.01.18-0.11.9.x86_64 (which is newer than mcelog-1.0.2013.01.18-0.x86_64) is already installed

OK, I’ve deinstalled the original packet and installed yours.
The mcelog is now working fine.
