novfsd

Hi!!

Since i have installed new package for Python (language), i have an error message when my session start:

" Cannot start tray. “novfsd” is not running "

after type OK:

" Please start novfsd as root with the command: ’ rcnovfsd start’ and try starting the tray again "

first, what is the tray how could i start it,because after the command rcnovfsd start and restart the computer, i have the same error!!!

Thanks

Hi
The tray is the top panel part that holds all the icons (notification
area). Generally these are all started when you login, you can see this
information via the ‘Control Center’ → Startup Programs. If you click
on edit, it will show the command which can be copied and pasted into a
terminal and run manually. This should provide additional information
on what is not working.

Hi cmigroup,

that command will not persist a reboot - that’s a one-shot start of the daemon. The tray application is an end-user part, that part of the question was already answered by Malcolm.

Try (as root) additionally to run “insserv novfsd”, which will tell the init subsystem to start novfsd on reboot.

I have no SLED system to test this, so YMMV.
