Can we expect that we see the availability of PHP8 for SLES15 in the near future?
It is a requirement e.g. for new Typo3 versions (New System Requirements for Upcoming TYPO3 v12).
Just learned, that PHP8 is already available on SLES15 SP4
In SLES15 SP4 PHP 8 has replaced PHP 7, which has moved to the Legacy Module.
To install the package on your system, you need to activate this module:
SUSEConnect -p sle-module-web-scripting/15.4/x86_64
Recently we learned that PHP8 is not enough, PHP 8.1+ is needed.
We already launched a feature request via support to support 8.1 in SLES, and you are welcome to do this, too, to emphasize its importance.
After all, according to PHP: Supported Versions PHP 8.0 already receives only Security Support, and this will end in Nov 2023.
Meanwhile, while officially there is not PHP 8.1 in SLES15 SP5, the SuSE package hub offers this version in the backport pool: php81-8.1.24-bp155.2.1
