A friend’s Macbook needs a new power adapter. I don’t know the model
number of her unit, but it’s white with a 13" screen, and she bought it
at least three years ago.
Question 1: will any “60W Magsafe AC Adapter Battery Charger” (e.g.,
the one below) work with this unit, or are there different voltages etc
that have the same connector but will only function on certain models of
Macbook?
Question 2: In your experience, is it worth the extra ~ $50 to get a
genuine Apple replacement instead of a knockoff?
Hi
The model number is on the bottom of the device an Annnn number.
Sounds like a MacBook Air, then go here http://www.everymac.com/ should
identify the system.
I would get a genuine charger… but that’s just me…

If it was for my own use, I’d get the knockoff, but since it’s not, I
went with the name brand.
Thanks again.[/color]
For a reg’lar laptop, I go with generic chargers. For anything Apple, I’d go
with the brand, because most of the knock-offs are also patent violations, not
actually authorized, and simply not going to be backed up by the counterfeiter
or copying company. i.e. what is being sold illegally is likely not going to
have a great real-world warranty.
But, ya know, for a Dell laptop, I have had as good results with a $25 charger
as the one that costs $150 from Dell itself. Same with my Viao charger, though
they all tend to get hot & the cable insulation damages easily.
