SAP on SLES 11 sp1 and migration to SP4.

Dear All,

I was told to post this thread in this forum (even though I have SLES enterprise server )

I’m planning a migration of SusE 11 sp1 to sp4 .
the thing is → I have a SAP Netweaver system installed on that machine.
I’ve searched through and through but I haven’t find anything about making some pre/post steps before/after migration.

Is there anything (that is connected in any way to SAP) I should look out for during the migration ? Or backup any relevant catalog/file ?

Do you have “regular” SLES or SLES for SAP Applications? The latter is
optimised for SAP HANA and NetWeaver.

Please post the output from “cat /etc/*release” as the difference is
important.

TID 7016711[1] covers how to upgrade to SLES11 SP4 including a reference
to SLES11 SP4 for SAP Applications.

Basically since you have SLES11 SP1 (possibly for SAP Applications) you
will need to upgrade in stages to SP4 - first upgrade to SP2, then to
SP3, before finally to SP4.

If you’re using SLES for SAP Applications this should be handled during
the upgrade but if you have “regular” SLES I’m guessing there is some
additional stuff to handle SAP NetWeaver … ?

I have regular SLES ( Welcome to SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP1 (x86_64) )

That is why I posted the thread on the regular SLES forum (and they advised me to ask here )

If you’re not using SLES for SAP Applications then this probably isn’t
the correct forum although with SAP NetWeaver in the mix it will do.

To be honest I think the only people who can advise on what to do before
and/or after upgrading SLES with SAP NetWweaver installed are SAP - have
you seen

Upgrading SLES is fairly straightforward but as I said previously
because you’re starting from SLES11 SP1 you will have to upgrade 3 times
to the next Service Pack each time. It’s possible that any or all of
those stages could have an impact on your NetWeaver upgrade(s).
