SES and Spectre/Meltdown performance hit

Has anyone benchmarked SES 4 or 5 to see what the mitigation from SUSE does to performance yet? Ugh and the thread title should be “and” rather than “amd”.

thanks,
Andrew

Hi Andrew,.

the ceph-users mailing list has one actual test result (http://lists.ceph.com/pipermail/ceph-users-ceph.com/2018-January/023717.html), stating
CPU bound test (HPL) showed a 2% hit.
i/o bound test (fio) showed 30%.
While those tests were likely not run on SES, but some other variant of Ceph, I believe SES cluster nodes would show similar numbers due to the low-level nature of the work-around.

J

Thanks for the reply Jens. I lurk on ceph-users too but it’s easy to miss one email.
