SLES 10.2 SAMBA PDC and older SAMBA 2.2.8a

I have just setup a new SLES 10.2 SAMBA (3.0.28) PDC with an LDAP
backend. I have an existing SAMBA server (2.2.8a) running on SCO Unix
5.5 using PlainTextPasswords. I need to be able to run apps of of the
older server. Is this possible by changing the old server WORKGROUP
setting to WORKGROUP=domain and encrypting passwords on the old server?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
