When I am connected to a SLES 11 server via VNC, I am unable to launch
yast. it spins like it is going to open but doesn’t. If I am on a
local console, it works fine. If I try from the command line I get the
RANDR missing error.

Yep, known issue that can happen sometimes… solution should be
simple, delete the ~/.Xauthority file for the affected users (which
would be root in this case).
