SLES11 is not able to mount the external storage media

hi all,
today only , i installed the SLES 11.but i am facing few problems

  1. not able to configure the network.
  2. not able to mount the external hard disk media or even usb.

please help me
(step by step instructions will be beneficial to me)

step by step descriptions of what you tried to achieve, the steps you took and what problems you are facing will be beneficial to those trying to help you :wink:

Your description sounds as if you’re rather new to SLES, have you read the according sections if the SLES documentation, i.e. the installation manuals?

For 1. Are you using ifup or the network manager. ethernet or wireless?
For 2. On SLES only root can mount usb devices if plugged in, or are
you wanting to connect permanently via usb (this would need a fstab
entry).

Whilst you say “SLES 11” do you literally mean SLES11 (no SP, SP0) or
perhaps SLES11 SPn where n could be 1 to 3. Please post the output from
“cat /etc/*release”.
