SLES11 SP1 intermitently fails to find root device

I’m using SLES11 SP1 in an I’m seeing several machines failing sometimes
to boot, the message is “Waiting for device /dev/sda1 to appear”.
Eventually times out and asks if I want to try the fallback mechanism.
The problem gets fixed by rebooting the system.

Though the failure is not fatal is really annoying to see this
behavior. Have anyone seen such behavior?

Whast hardware? Sounds like a slow init routine and the OS is jumping the
gun.

The hardware is a Intel Workstation Board S5520SC with two Xeon CPUs on
it. Do you know of any recent hardware showing this strange timeout
issue? Maybe not helpful here but the card works just fine with RedHat
OS.

Thanks!
