SMTP Relay with AD authentication

We attempting to configure a sendmail server for SMTP relay. We like for
this relay server to first authenticate users based on their active
directory creds. I believe this can be accomplished with PAM but I can’t
find any good documentation on how to configure this. Has anyone out
there done this and could you please help me with this config.
