I am trying to upgrade SLES 11sp1 to sp2 and can’t get beyond the “uninstallable providers: ruby-1.8.7.p72-5.24.2.x86_64” error. I’ve checked the resources and SP1 is among the sources. Is there another place I should look?

Where did that get installed from? Sounds very much like an openSUSE 11.x rpm?
Check via YaST software management and search on ruby and check the versions tab to identify the source…

Is this “plain” SLES11 SP1 or perhaps OES11 (SP0) which is an add-on for
SLES11 SP1? Given Malcolm’s comment I’m aware OES11 installs some ruby
packages although I’ve got a feeling they’re a later revision on 1.8.7
than indicated above.

Thanks for the help. It looks to me like it’s coming from the initial install and looking for the SP1 Updates which I’ve been getting from the nu_novell_com site. I’ve been doing semi-regular updates and this is the first time I’ve stumbled into this problem.

Thanks for the help. I do have OES installed on the box as an addon because it runs GW. But when I checked versions, it indicated that it’s looking for the installed ver from the install CD and the update from SP1 Updates which I’ve been getting from the Novell update site. I’ve been updating the server semi-regularly and this is the first time I’ve run into this.

Okay so if you have OES installed then you need to be very careful when
upgrading - you can’t just upgrade the underlying SLES but also need to
upgrade OES at the same time otherwise you will break OES.
If you have OES on SLES11 SP1 then you should be running OES11 (SP0)
which you can upgrade directly to the latest version of OES11 which is
OES11 SP2 (installed on SLES11 SP3). Please post the output from “cat
/etc/*release” to confirm the versions of SLES and OES involved.
You should also note that normally you can’t go directly from SLES11 SP1
straight to SLES11 SP3 but because you have OES11 in the mix you can (go
figure!).
