Add volumes-from to service containers

volumes-from should be added to service ui soon. volumes-from is available during “Add container”, but is missed during add an service container. Would be great to manage services with data-only containers / persistent storage.

Services do not have a volumes from option in the UI because it doesn’t make sense… The service can have many containers (scale option) on different hosts.

We call what you’re looking for Sidekicks, https://rancher.com/docs/rancher/v2.5/en/overview/architecture/ . This lets you define a sub-service that gets scheduled alongside and at the same scale as the primary service. Creating sidekicks is currently only in the rancher-compose CLI, not the UI.

We’re in the middle of re-designing the UI of our applications tab based on feedback from our Beta program. We’ll be adding in this ability when that is released.

You can define data-only containers as sidekicks. Managing them will be in the UI eventually, but volumes-from a service still doesn’t make sense for the same reason I said before.

Thanks. Sidekicks should be fine, but would love To see / manage sidekicks in the ui in the future.

Sidekicks won’t work as needed as posted in the issue here

Use the same data only container as sidekick and be able to load balance to all service containers using the data only container.
