Any word on SLES 11 SP3?

Title kind of says it all. Linux kernel 3.5 has support for newer CPUs and I’m hoping SP3 will use 3.5

According to session “TT102 - SUSE Linux Enterprise: Technology Roadmap”
that was presented during BrainShare SLE11 SP3 is expected to be
released in June.

Slides are available to download @
https://www.brainshareslc.com/2013/connect/sessionDetail.ww?SESSION_ID=2320
though there’s no mention of kernel 3.5.

As far as I know SLES 11 SP3 will continue running kernel 3.0 with some additional backports to it for fixes and functionality from later kernel versions.

Which kernel CPU functionality/support are you looking for in particular?

Cheers,
Willem

See

https://www.suse.com/releasenotes/x86_64/SUSE-SLES/11-SP3/

Section 6.1.9 specifies Kernel 3.0
Section 7.6.1 specifies support for several (Intel) CPUs

Regards,

Mark.

My guess is it’ll be released in June along side the San Francisco Linux Days event on the 27th.

I think I meant June 20th.

As you noted in your first reply the dates you’ve given are just guesses
because unless you work for (or perhaps with) SUSE you’re not going to
know the release dates.

When SUSE Linux Enterprise (Server and Desktop) 11 SP3 is (ready to be)
released there will an official announcement.

I found the official “date” in TID 7011869. http://www.novell.com/support/kb/doc.php?id=7011869
Pretty much it says “General availability of SLES11SP3 will be announced on the SUSE website and other communication channels and is planned for beginning of second half of 2013 (H2 2013).” Also note for beta users “Please do not install any SLE11SP3 updates before the official release as this will invalidate the systems support status.”
