Departing CEO wants access to his email for an extra week

Most people seem to automatically understand that once they’ve left the
company, they cannot expect access to their corporate email; but today
our outgoing CEO asked for just that. I’m sure this is a bad idea for
legal/liability reasons. Have any of you faced such a situation before?

I have.

I immediately put together a conference call between the legal dept. and
the new acting CEO and myself. They made the decision.

In some countries that is a legal right, to have access to your
mailbox 1 year after departure. If not stated otherwise in the
household.
