Just venting here. So my boss’s boss is an email fiend apparently.
Currently his mailbox contains almost 64,000 inbox items, over 21,000
sent items and is almost 30.5GB in size.

Last time I checked…over a year ago…I had two users with 55 GB and
three with 40 to 45 GB mailboxes.
Maybe I can get an archive solution approved for 2015.

So my response to KeN’s comment is…
Yikes! I would really like to set up a quota on my users with large
mailboxes, at least force them to clean some stuff up.

I just don’t like having people here with that much email sitting
around. He probably has 10k to 20k emails that have never been read I
would guess.
Granted, he’s pretty high up the ‘food chain’ here, and he gets cc’d in
on pretty much everything that goes on.

But why not? I love the fact that I still have absolutely instant
access to every single email (I didn’t delete) since 1999 in my mailbox.

Maybe, maybe not. Of course, 90% of all files in worldwide filesytems
have been written and never read again. That’s a fact of life.

Mails he got CC’d on don’t really take up any noticeably space in the
system anyways…
My point is: Groupwise is most easily the most scalable collaboration
system existing. It simply doesn’t really care about mailbox sizes.

Stevo:
If he’s high on the food chain, leave him be. He probably decided a
long time ago that his time was better spent doing things other than
deleting emails, and it probably is.
When it comes time to getting more disk space, just do a list of all
of the sizes of the largest email boxes, without names adjacent to
them, and use it as justification. Chances are the ones with the
largest boxes will be publicly outraged that some people hog up all
that space, but if they are privately/discreetly informed that their
own box is among those listed, will help get the approval through for
the additional space. LOL

Oh he knows he’s got the largest mailbox here, he just gets cc’d in on
everything, and as busy as he is, apparently doesn’t have time to go
through them all on any kind of regular basis.

If he knows, all the more reason to just leave him be. Have you tried
offering to delete all the unread ones prior to a certain date for
him? That might work, unless he’s saving them to prove that he never
read them.
