Is there any way to add the devel-perl & devel-python software repositories at http://software.opensuse.org permanently? Adding packages one…at…a…time is no fun at all and takes hours to install something that should take minutes.

Yes, either via YaST software repositories and add the URL etc, or from the command line;

Thank you a ton, this helped a lot. I was able to add the python & perl devel areas this way.
I have a question about this though. If I am adding all these unsupported repos to get functionality (i.e. - exif, which is not included in the supported repos), is it beneficial to have the latest openSUSE rather than SUSE? Just looking for an opinion, still trying to figure out if this is the best answer…

I use the Open Build Service for all my non-supported stuff… for
example this user just branched and built exif based on the latest
factory version…

You could ask this user to add the SP3 repo and use their copy?
Hard to say, I multiboot but also have laptops with SLED and SLES
running, if I can’t build an application for SLE without climbing
through hoops, I just use openSUSE…
You might want to look at the Evergreen openSUSE versions, AFAIK the
next one will be 13.1 (with 3 years of community support, note the
community in there…so it is dependent on security issues being
backported after 18 months…)
The other option is to run a virtual machine with openSUSE for all
those bits you need with SLE as the host?
