expiration dates for yogurt & sour cream

Aren’t yogurt and sour cream already spoiled milk products? What’s the
point of the expiration date? To note double secret expiration?

Does this washcloth smell like chloroform?

It’s science man!

No, yogurt and sour cream are lactic acid cultures/fermentations which
actually help keep the milk/cream in them from spoiling. The use by
date means after that, the milk/cream in it will likely spoil, being
overtaken by other bacteria.

So it’s not originally spoiled, it’s originally altered with a certain
bacteria in larger quantities, and then over time spoils naturally,
later, just like unaltered milk or cream. : )

Joe, you can use this rule of thumb: If it’s strawberry yoghurt and
it’s green, throw it out.
