It might happen Gnome freezes. Typically when using Mail and Internet, suddently Gnome freezes for a while and sometimes it wakes up again.
You will find several threads on internet about this issue.
Solution actual is:
Tweak Tool
Change curser from standard Adwaita to somthting else.
I have tried that over some weeks - and it works.

More likely btrfs maintenance running or other maintenance
activities… Set you crontab run time for a time you not usually on
the machine eg lunch break, so maintenance tasks can run.
Else run top in a window and see what is running when the freeze occurs.

Yes, could be and there are some threads pointing to SSD. But you will find many posts about it and many tests. It happens randomly, usually at WEB connections.
Some point on Firefox issues. I tried different things. I
But one pointed on curser issue and that changed it - helped. Now these issues are solved.
