My HP620 notebook with SLED 11 SP1 (i586), Gnome 2.28, Kernel
2.6.32.43-0.4-pae
freezes while inactive in about 20 minutes.
I noticed this first while downloading an rpm in a slow Internet
connection.
Next it repeated diring inactive mode working without Internet
connection.
As a result, I see a green SUSE Linux
Enterprise Desctop screen
with the last lines reports:
Master Resource Control^ runlevel 5 has been

A hot restart does not help.
The only option to reboot the notebook is to disconnect it from the
power and start again.
Probably it occurs because of switching in a suspend or hibernate mode.
Go to your power save settings, disable sleep functions and check freeze
issue again.

Thank you. The reason lies in this option.
Meanwhile, may be this is a texbook issue,
but how to return the PC to normal from the locked in mode, apart from
disconnecting power?

No, there are no working consoles, no active keyboards, everything is
frozen.

You mite have a hardware problem there … you should run a memory test
and hard drive test. Also … check your temperatures !
About the power off … you know that even the pc is frozen if you push
the POWER BUTTON for 5 - 10 seconds the computer will shut down. No need
to pull the plug out

Thank you, in ~5 sec it turned off successfully. But, if it was the
hibernation mode is it possible to resume the operation without
restarting?
First of all try to update your system the kernel version should be
2.6.32.46-0.3-pae.
And it can really be a hardware issue as sergiu_niculas has suggested -
I’ve got the same notebook and no freezes were noticed.

Thank you, Aleks!
I’ve upgraded the Kernel, and also increased idle time before
hibernation to Never,
and now the PC is working until is switched off by the user.
I also presume that earlier I could not wait enough time until the
system restores from hibernation.
