Hi,
IIRC, booting from a LV was not possible for a long time. Or ? I have several SLES 11 SP4, and i’m thinking about it. Is it possible now ?
What are the prerequisites ?

Hi,
we are working for years with a sperate (non LVM) /boot partition, everything else is LVM.
Grub 2 AFAIK supports booting from LVM (we never tried that) and GRUB2 is avail for SLES 11 but:
Release notes for SLES 12 says:
“For a migration from an existing SUSE Linux Enterprise 11 system with LVM2 to SUSE Linux Enterprise 12 the /boot partition must be preserved.”
i guess thats means a seperate partition…
regards
Michael

i may be wrong in the assumption that Grub 2 is included in SLES11,
on a SLE4SAP 11 SP4 box:
zypper se grub2
Loading repository data…
Reading installed packages…
S | Name | Summary | Type
–±-----------------±------------------------------------------------------±----------
| grub2 | Bootloader with support for Linux, Multiboot and more | srcpackage
so only the srcpackage no package ? If thats the case, without a grub2 i know no way
to boot a “pure” LVM system.
