keeping chat based forums

Ok, so I’m on the soap box here … I’ll ask forgiveness in advance.

Got to say that I find using FB as an authenication source isn’t a good
thing. As IT people, we know why. Most of the general public has no idea
what they are opening themselves up to by using Facebook Connect to
authenticate to other portals.

Internet tracking is at an all time high. Install the Ghostery extenstion
in your Firefox & Chrome browsers, subcribe to the feed closest to your
location, and see how many trackers it blocks. I’ve seen seen 15 trackers
blocked on many sites.

I have a FB account, but don’t link it to any other on line service or ever
use it to login to a web site. I don’t trust them & what I’m doing is none
of their business.

For sure, I don’t use the FB phone app as it will harvest everything on your
phone & insert what it want on to it.

Is your private phone number on Facebook? Probably. And so are your friends’
Uploads from iPhones using the Facebook app will push all your contacts onto
Facebook’s servers - where they’ll be matched against any and everyone.
Worried at all? Update: Or how about a random Facebooker’s number?

Which is why I don’t use Facebook.

I do technically have an account, but only My Wife and one other Person
is “friended”.

I have a total of ZERO status updates.

So, For any of those wondering why I have not accepted a Friend Request
is because I don’t use it not because I don’t like you :>

Okay - so while I don’t trust Facebook as far as I could throw them if I could
actually throw a website, it’s also important to note that the stuff you posted
is OLD. One link almost two years old, and one almost a year old.

Right on the FB third-party authentication pages, it says that by using
the login method, the user grants access to the users facebook profile
to the third party. Really shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone.

Also, no, my phone number isn’t on FB and my contacts were not imported.
Those too, are choices…

Except for a few people… in that case it’s because you don’t like 'em.

Does this washcloth smell like chloroform?

Hey DZanre,

so while I don’t trust Facebook as far as I could throw them[/color]

That’s why I don’t give them anything I don’t want totally public in my
profile or status updates. With that attitude, I’m thoroughly enjoying
connecting with and interacting with people there.

So they’re old. Likely they are still correct.

I’m just sayin’ that not linking one system (FB) to nother system (G+,
Yahoo, etc.) is probably a safe course of action. I was considering the
Facebook app for Android until I read that it would harvest my entire
address book & insert what it wants into it. Not cool.

I dunno - Facebook changes their security and privacy strategies almost more
often than some people change their underwear

Facebook can’t even keep their own help pages up to date. I continually find
things about functions that haven’t existed for years, and no indication on how
to accomplish the same task with their update of the day.
