Live Migration to another SAN

Currently running SLES 11 SP4 with HA

I can live migrate VMs (Windows and SLES) between the hosts. The VM disks are on the shared SAN (SAN1).

Now we have another SAN (SAN2) and would like to move the VM disks over to SAN2. Can this be done live? I haven’t seen a place to do this within any utility. Or must this be done the old school way with downtime of stopping the VM, copy the VM disks to SAN2, config the VM xml to point to SAN2 and start the VM?

Could someone point me in the proper direction?

Thank you.
(plan to move to SLES 12 SPx later this year)

I am not aware of any capability similar to VMware’s Storage vMotion.
That leaves the old school way…

Just found and read this article that KVM should support storage migration

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Features/Virt_Storage_Migration

It is over 4 years old but is is a great start.

"KVM and Libvirt now support a performant way to live migrate virtual machines with no shared storage between the hosts. A running VM and it’s disk images are relocated to a new machine with no downtime. "

Sure would like to know if the SUSE dev team know about this and will implement this in a future release (like SLES 15).

I know MS Hyper-V can do live storage migration. Can VMWare? Other Hypervisors?
