microfocus.com - navigation is a pain

Does anyone besides me find the microfocus website to be a navigation
nightmare? I used to be able to go to support.novell.com and just do
whatever I needed to do to get what I needed. Now it seems I am
constantly having to use these annoying “Browse by Product” or “Browse
by Solution” drop downs before I can get to where I want to be. Is
that really even necessary?

Yes, it’s awful. The ‘Search Knowledgebase’ feature has gone to heck
too. Keyword searches are all but unusable because you can no longer
search for a phrase by enclosing it in quotes – if I search for, say,
“login expiration time”, I get search hits with any of the terms instead
of only hits with that phrase. I actually have better luck using a Web
search engine. It’s especially sad given how good support.novell.com
used to be.

But that was a decade ago, when they were still using their own product
(quickfinder). Back then it was absolutely awesome. Since the switch to
third party products, I’ve been exclusively using google myself for the
lack of proper search syntax for phrases and must include and such.

Yes, agreed; that new “where do you want to go really, no really” screen
is just painful. I just want to authenticate to the lousy site and get
into something, but there’s that prompt. So many good things were
happening with the new site redesigns, the “super-nav” at the top, etc.,
but this one does not seem like it was tested by anybody outside of
developers.

Good luck.

Thanks for the feedback. I’ve passed it along to the web development team.
