MSSQL Server On Linux - windows authentication

We are attempting to setup a MSSQL server on Linux and so far so good except for windows authentication.

Following the MS instruction on this setup: https://www.mssqltips.com/sqlservertip/5075/configure-sql-server-on-linux-to-use-windows-authentication/

These instructions work (sort of). They use realmd to join the linux server to the AD domain and I used the Users&Groups in YAST to join, which I believe uses samba-winbind (not really sure). In any case I ran into a problem where the MSSQL cannot seem to actually connect to AD if realmd was not used. (per MS) Even thought I can connect via the command line and kinit.

Now I also found that realmd was included in 12 SP1 &2 but appears to have been dropped in SP3. Any chance this will return in the future or should I try to use the package from SP2 ?

Thanks
