No updates found using Yast or rug

Hi
I have a SLES 10 SP3 server with OES 2 SP2 installed which I cannot
update at all. The Novell registration all appeared to be ok but
regardless of how i try to find the updates there are none available.

I’ve followed TIDs 3465877 and subsequently 3030847 to try and register
but the catalogs are never available. Using the command rug sub
OES2-Updates returns not a valid catalog, or any other catalog name that
I have entered they are all not valid.

Since the above TIDs I have totally broken things further so now when I
run rug sl I can only see
active NU https://nu.novell.com but no ZYPP entries for SLES 10 SP3 or
OES2 SP2, previously these were visable.

/usr/lib/zmd/query-pool products produces the correct info both
SUSE-SLES 10 SP3 and OES 2 have the small i beside them, I’ve been
through the remove nu.novell.com rczstop delete /etc/zmd/secret
/etc/zmd/deviceid restart rczmd etc and the suse_register process
numerous times but rug sl only shows the nu.novell.com entry.

When things were better and I had the correct entries under rug sl the
rug ca command would not produce anything showing updates and trying to
subscribe to the catalogs just failed with not valid catalog messages.

As you can probably tell I am a novice at this, can someone please tell
me how I can fix this mess and get my server to update either through
yast or rug?

Thanks in advance

For OES2 SP2 the correct update catalog is OES2-SP2-Updates.
OES2-Updates is for the original OES2 (no SP).

“rug sl” should show an active NU service for https://nu.novell.com and
may also list two active ZYPP services for your install sources. Don’t
worry if you don’t see the latter as they’re optional (depends on how
you installed and then update your server).

As I said above, “rug sl” is correct.

Does “/user/lib/zmd/query-pool products” just output two lines, one for
each product with an “i” in first column, or does it output four lines?

When things were better and I had the correct entries under rug sl the
rug ca command would not produce anything showing updates and trying to
subscribe to the catalogs just failed with not valid catalog messages.

“rug ca” is the important output as this should show the catalogs that
are available, some of which should be subscribed.

Was the server installed as SLES10 SP3 plus OES2 SP2 or upgraded from a
previous version?

Try following the steps in the second part of the resolution for TID
3150078 (ignoring all the zypper stuff in the first part).

The server was installed as SLES10 SP3 and OES2 SP2 from the outset,
there is a third party print management product also installed called
PaperCut but nothing much else. I desperately need to update the iPrint
server as the PaperCut software is not working as it should. Is the any
other way of updating these servers by downloading complete service
packs or similar.

I think the above is wrong and it should show 2x OES2 SP2 & 2x SLES10
SP3 not 3x OES2 SP2 & 1x SLES10 SP3 but whether that’s the problem … ?

Are the SLES10 and OES2 registration codes you’re using still valid
(i.e. they haven’t expired)?

I know of PaperCut (and they know of me!). The presence of that is not
causing this problem.

Thanks Simon I have reinstalled and used other registration codes as
those were not valid it appears even though they came from the first
registration on the Novell site so I don’t know why but at least I have
the SLES updating now only got the OES2 to do battle with and all will
be good!

Glad to hear it’s now working.

Be careful when grabbing your registration codes from the Novell
Customer Center (NCC) as it’s not always clear which ones are valid and
which have expired. I had a lengthy conversation during BrainShare with
someone from Novell about NCC and how it might be improved.
