2 SLES 11 SP1 machines.
One machine is supposed to get the time from its own hardware clock,
and should provide this time to the second host.
How to configure ? I do not have any more ideas…
10.10.10.10 → should get the time from hw clock
→ should provide time to 10.10.10.11
network 10.10.10.0 /24
no firewall active, no gateway.
What are the entries for /etc/ntp.conf on both hosts ?
I tried anything, server, peer, broadcast → ended in KoD packets or
just:Time could not be synchronized

Have you tried using YaST → Network Services → NTP Configuration and
adding a peer?
I have the same problem too. i tried to change /etc/sysconfig/clock file (variable SYSTOHC create me some confusion), but not work. I don’t know how to permanently configure a server to get the time from is hardware clock… Every reboot i have a mismatch between hardware clock and system time.

may I ask you to open a new thread? ntp is not responsible for syncing your h/w clock with the system clock, but for syncing the system clock with a remote time source (and/or for offering your system time to remote NTP clients). Therefore this thread’s title is misleading and has nothing in common with the problem you’re experiencing.
Subject of the new thread might be something along the lines of “h/w clock not read on system boot”, unless I read your description wrong.
I am a newbie here and having problem with configuring NTP on SUSE linux 10. After configuration, its give an error of cannot restart daemon service. I have also tride “logprof” but it gives an error of command not found. Please help
as this seems to be a completely different issue, please open a new thread for your question. Also, please indicate what you consider “SUSE Linux 10” - by looking at the content of “/etc/SuSE-release”, is it “SLES 10” and if so, which service pack? (No matter what “SUSE 10” we’re talking about - it’s out of support, so please give some background, too, about the system and if you might consider updating the machine).
