Restoring striped LVM array after OS failure

So here’s my issue:

I installed 5 SATA hard discs
I partitioned sda for my root, var, home, etc
I used LVM2 to create a striped array using sdb, sdc, sdd, and sde

In the case of an OS failure where I have to reinstall suse, how would I reinstate the array? Everything I’ve read says once you run the pvcreate command data is lost on that drive.

If you only want to re-install the OS (no drives were failing), LVM then will detect the PVs (by markers created on the disks) and rebuild the stripe set.
