I am trying to upgrade our SLES enterprise server to SP3 en route to the latest version. I have tried it twice and each time it has failed. The problem is this. The upgrade wants all partitions to not be mounted by device ID. Well, the partition that I need to change to UUID is a vmware volume that does not have a UUID associated with it. So I proceeded with the upgrade anyway and after the reboot, of course the vmware partition does not mount. Has anyone else experienced this issue, and if so, is there a work around or fix for it? Thanks.

So we know you want to at least get to SLES11 SP3 but which
version are you currently running? Please post the output from
“cat /etc/*release” which will also confirm that you’re not using
Novell OES11 (which installs on top of SLES11) - I only mention
this given you’re using GroupWise.

Need OES since this is the only eDirectory server we have.

Okay so you are using Novell Open Enterprise Server (OES) in which case
you should repost in the Novell/Micro Focus Forums for OES @
https://forums.novell.com/forumdisplay.php/514-OES-Linux as the update
procedure for OES is a bit different to “regular” SLES.
