SLES 11 SP1 hang on boot after applying online updates

Hi there,

Hardware is IBM XSERIES 440 8687 7RX
8 XEON PROCESSORS 2.0 GHZ 24 GIG RAM - IBM SERVERAID 6M CONTROLLER CARD
WITH RAID LEVEL 5EE

AND

Hardware is IBM XSERIES 445 8870 22X
8 XEON PROCESSORS 2.7 GHZ 32 GIG RAM - IBM SERVERAID 6M CONTROLLER CARD
WITH RAID LEVEL 5EE

At fresh install of SLES 11 SP1 if I DO NOT apply any updates machine
will work fine but if I apply online updates then machine will hang at
the boot or reboot. Only runs in SAFE MODE.

any help appreciated.
