SLES12 vmware tools

Hi,

Do we still need to install vmware tools on sles12 when running on ESX?
The plain vanilla install says the vmware tools version is “Running (3rd-party/Independent)”

Cheers,
Hein

If you’re virtualising SLES12 on VMware vSphere/ESXi it will
automatically install open-vm-tools which is an open source
implementation of VMware Tools and supported by VMware. See

Hi Simon,

Thanks for that.
These are the most important facts.
-VMware recommends using open-vm-tools redistributed by operating system vendors.
-VMware does not recommend removing open-vm-tools redistributed by operating system vendors.

Cool, will save me some time in the future
