Tape library configuration

Greetings all,
I need to configure a tape library(SL 150 from Storagetek) on SLES 10/11. Can you folks guide me in the direction of getting some doco on configuring the SL150 itself or some generic configuration tips please.

cheers
JJ

Hi
How do you mean generic tips?

I’m assuming you can see the loader?

hwinfo --tape

There is some information here;

Hi JJ,

there’s not much to say in terms of “generic configuration tips”… you’ll have to connect the lib to your server via your favorite communications link (typically SAS, SCSI or FC) and to check whether the devices are recognized. You usually should see one SCSI device (even with SAS or FC :wink: ) for each tape drive, plus one device for the changer/library itself. I. e.:
jmozdzen@someserver:~> lsscsi
[0:0:0:0] tape HP Ultrium 4-SCSI U51W /dev/st0
[0:0:0:1] mediumx HP MSL G3 Series D.63 /dev/sch0
…
Everything else depends on the library and your application using it, especially things like which device to use, block size, compression, tape operation. The latter can often be run manually via the “mt” command. “mtx” is for controlling the lib, but that heavily depends on the specific library interface (don’t let the package description fool you, it controls “real” libs, too :wink: ).

Regards,
Jens
