I searched for “video editing” and only found one post from 2 years ago that asked about apps to fix .avi files.
I’ve looked for the go-to software, OpenShot, and of course it is not available and I have not been able to get the requirements installed or have not even found them. Also, has anybody ever got mkvtools, mkvmerge et al installed or running on their SLED box?

You may try Avidemux.
I use it with Sled 11 Sp1 to Sp3.
