When I installed my SLES 11 SP2 server, one of the first things the installation routine asked me was whether the server was going to be physical or virtual. I chose physical and I believe my selection was used to select appropriate packages.
Now I want to virtualize this server to run it on VMware. What packages should I install to facilitate this? Will this be any different than if I had selected “virtual” during the original install?

When installing your SLES11 SP2 server your options, as per step 6 of
Installation Quick Start Manual for SLES11[1], were
O Physical Machine (also for Fully Virtualized Guests)
O Virtual Machine (for Paravirtualized Environments like Xen)
O Xen Virtualization Host (Local X11 Not Configured by Default)
O KVM Virtualization Host (Local X11 Not Configured by Default)
Whether installing SLES11 on physical hardware or as a virtual machine
under VMware software, the first option is correct since the other
options relate to other virtualization platforms (Xen and KVM).
