Alternate Data Streams

I know this group is not used for questions, but I could not find an
appropiate group for this question. If you are unable or unwilling to
answer, please direct me to the right group.

Microsoft created Alternate Data Streams to remain compat. with Apple’s
Forks, and also with Novell’s data streams. However, Microsoft’s
datastreams do not translate the other way to NWFS or NSS and I was
wondering if there was a way to make it happen. Similar to the way we can
add long name space, maybe we could add ADS support.

Also does somebody have a URL to where I can find the specs on the Novell
Data streams?

Interesting question; while the answer to its specifically may be
interesting, could you explain the business case in case there are
alternatives that better meet your needs?

Good luck.

Network security. I am in a mixed environment and a large amount of data
goes from a Microsoft (NTFS) network to a Novell (NSS), and from a Novell to
a Microsoft. In some cases there is data stored in Alternate Data Streams
that gets lost when it gets copied to the Novell network.

It would also be nice to get the complete specs on the Novell Data Streams,
as that would enable our developers to make custom translation tools as
special customized needs come up.

Renee:

I asked some folks at Novell about this. It’s a subject for a developer
forum, but, unfortunately, there’s no developer forum that covers that
subject.

The suggestion was to open an SR with Novell about your issue. That
might be the best route to getting an answer. I’ve also got a link for
you that pertains to the file system services:

http://www.novell.com/developer/ndk/file_system_services_(64-bit).html

Ordinarily this wouldn’t be posted in here, but there’s really nowhere
else in the forums for you to go to get the information, so I’m giving
it to you here. : )
