Blank Screen

Hi all,
I’m using SLED11 SP2 32 bit gnome only. Last night I migrated my Laptop to SP2 with minimal update, after complete & restart, splash screen is appearing & then screen goes to black screen.
Only failsafe mode is working.
after login either root/non root user on failsafe mode, i tried to open from Control Center ATI Catalyst Control Center, but the following
“Initialization error” popup display & contain the following message
"There was a problem initializing Catalyst Control Center Linux edition. It could be caused by the following.

No ATI graphics driver is installed, or the ATI driver is not functioning properly.
Please install the ATI driver appropriate for you ATI hardware, or configure using aticonfig."

After that i open Install Software from main menu & check the ati repository but all 4 packeges were install.

Please help me, i dont want to use my system on failsafe mode.

Below i paste some information from hwinfo

Have you checked whether there are any updates awaiting installation?

Can you post the output of

$ zypper lr -u

Hi mikewillis,
Actually i did a different thing.
From failsafe mode, i remove all nvidia driver & reinstall ATI driver, & the problem solved.
But, some times, likes, after the SLED splash screen (before login prompt), or from standby mode, the screen goes freeze, i.e., either it goes black screen or scramble & I forcefully shutdown & after restart it goes ok.
So, please help me to recover these problem.

You had the nVidia drivers installed? Your original post didn’t mention that.

What you say doesn’t obviously describe any particular problem. Is this a problem which always occurs or only sometimes occurs? When it does occur have you looked in /var/log/messages to see if there are any relevant looking errors?

Hi mikewillis,
That particular problem occur some time. I didn’t find any relevant messages for this. Today it occure, after i gave my user name & password & hit enter the screen goes scramble & only busy cursor was visible, but as i watch the size of the busy cursor, i think the resolution was poor. And the solution was just Press & hold the power key for few seconds (no key was working, even mouse didn’t moving), after few seconds I again start the system & this time every thing is ok.
I also attached the log messages for you, I hope you may find the proper error.
