Converting PDF scanned docs to Word

I’ve tried nuancepdf.com and www.pdftoword.com and neither returned the
Word document to me. Does anyone here have a reliable and if possible free
way to convert scanned PDFs to Word ?

Thanks for any replies.

If they are searchable PDFs then just copy/paste. If not then they will
need to be OCR’d. I don’t know if CutePDF Pro will do that.

I know of plenty of OCR PDF to TEXT freebies, but not to WORD. Most PDF
to WORD assume the item is “native” not a scan.

Did you try http://www.onlineocr.net/ (it has a 4mb limit though).

Also Google Docs has this built in.

Reliable yes, free, no. I setup the omnipage batch manager to watch a
folder, perform the action and dump the .doc into an out folder.

You can probably just get Nuance Omnipage separately if that is all you
need.

Hi Arthur,

Many years ago I purchased a Fujitsu ScanSnap scanner. It came bundled
with ABBYY FineReader, an OCR program that will take a scanned document
and save it in several formats including: a searchable PDF, MS Word, MS
Excel, and MS PowerPoint. I have just recently upgraded to ABBYY
FineReader 11, a vastly improved version. It isn’t free but it is
reliable and able to convert complex documents. If you want to know
more, you can download the ‘User’s Guide’
(http://finereader.abbyy.com/guide/). You can also download a trial if
you like.
