I have VMWare Player 4 loaded on my Vista Ultimate host and have my 2
Linux SUSE Servers loaded and 1 SUSE Linux Workstation loaded too.
My problem is that I don’t see any IP address assignments for my Linux
Servers but do for my single Linux workstation. This lack of IP
addresses is causing me not to be able to communicate from the
workstation to the servers and vice-a-versa.
Can anyone shed some light on how to setup VMWare Player so it will
assign IP Addresses to my Linux Servers on a “Host Only” closed
network.
I assume VMware player has the ability to hand out DHCP assignments. I
assume their documentation will help with that as well.
Also, eDirectory boxes typically do not like dynamic IP addresses; you may
just have the wrong range to reach your VM which has (perhaps) a static IP
address in another range. Hopefully the providers of the VM know the
specific on the network setup within the machine itself.

Change to the NAT’d or bridged network options, on host only you won’t
be able to see the machines from one another. on the others they’ll pick
up a dhcp address, or as AB suggests, you can assign static address on
that subnet.

As I recall, all the VMs should be configured for host only networking
and have static addresses assigned - in the course guide, there is an e-
mail address to contact for support (sstechsupport at novell dot com, I
think is what it is, but the manual should say for sure) - that will get
it to someone who can help figure out why the setup isn’t right in your
kit.
In my experience with VMware Workstation using host only networking
works quite well, if you do not want to reach the outside from your
VMs. I always use static addresses in a host only environment as that
eases configuration and management for the relative small number of
VMs. Of course you need either hosts files or a name-server inside of
the host-only network to get dns-name-resolution working.
BTW NAT and bridged networks are great with wired adapters, but with
quite a lot of WLAN adapters communication between host and guest does
not work over a bridged or nated WLAN adapter.
